From Defendant to Defense Attorney
David Lee Windecher understands the criminal justice system from a perspective few attorneys possess — both as a former defendant and as an accomplished criminal defense attorney.
Long before entering a courtroom as counsel, David experienced the justice system firsthand. Growing up amid poverty, gangs, crime, corrupt law enforcement and limited opportunity, he encountered circumstances that placed him on the opposite side of the law. Those experiences ultimately became the foundation for a remarkable transformation — one driven by faith, family, education, personal accountability, and the belief that a person's past does not have to determine his or her future.
David earned his law degree and dedicated his career to advocating for people facing some of the most consequential moments of their lives. Today, as Founder and Managing Attorney of the Windecher Firm, he brings together rigorous legal advocacy and a deeply personal understanding of the fear, uncertainty, and collateral consequences that accompany involvement with the criminal justice system.
That perspective shapes the Firm's philosophy: every client deserves to be treated as an individual, every case deserves a carefully developed defense, and every person deserves an advocate committed to protecting their freedom, reputation, livelihood, and future.

David's legal career has provided him with a comprehensive perspective on the criminal justice system.
While attending law school, David served with the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, where he was sworn in under Georgia's Third Year Practice Act and gained courtroom experience representing the State. He later transitioned to criminal defense, first with Arora Law and ultimately through the establishment of the Windecher Firm.
Since entering private practice, David has devoted his career to defending individuals facing criminal accusations in state and federal courts. His experience encompasses case investigation, complex legal research, motion practice, evidentiary hearings, negotiations, trial strategy, sentencing advocacy, and post-adjudication relief.
David's experience as a former defendant, his experience representing the State, and his career as a defense attorney provide him with a distinctive understanding of the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives. That insight informs an individualized approach to every case — anticipating the government's strategy, identifying weaknesses in the evidence, protecting constitutional rights, and pursuing outcomes that consider not only the immediate case, but the client's life beyond the courtroom.
Author & Advocate
David chronicled his journey from the streets to the courtroom in his autobiography, The AmerIcan Dream | HisStory In The Making. His story explores poverty, adversity, involvement with the criminal justice system, personal transformation, and the pursuit of the American Dream through faith, family, education, and opportunity.
That lived experience became the foundation for a broader commitment to criminal justice reform. David has spent more than a decade advancing pretrial diversion, restorative justice, rehabilitation, education, and second chances for justice-impacted individuals while advocating for approaches that strengthen both individual outcomes and public safety.
His work reflects a guiding belief that accountability and redemption are not competing principles — and that a person's worst chapter should not necessarily define the rest of their story.

Jesse Moore
Associate Attorney
Jesse Moore joined the Windecher Firm with a commitment to criminal defense, justice reform, and protecting the rights of individuals navigating the criminal justice system. He graduated summa cum laude from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School in 2025 as valedictorian of the part-time program and was recognized as a Commencement Marshal, Honor Scholar of the Order of the Quill, and recipient of the Excellence in Pro Bono Award.
As a justice-impacted individual, Jesse brings a personal understanding of the consequences of criminal justice involvement to his advocacy. His experience reinforces the Firm's belief that a person's past does not define their future.
Jessica Manning
Business Manager and Legal Assistant
Jessica Manning has served as Business Manager and Legal Assistant to the Windecher Firm since October 2022. She plays an integral role in client communication, case administration, scheduling, document management, and the day-to-day coordination necessary to support the Firm's attorneys and clients.
Jessica also brings experience working alongside District Attorney's Offices on initiatives focused on reducing correctional control and recidivism. Her commitment to organization, communication, and client service helps ensure that individuals represented by the Firm receive attentive and responsive support throughout their case.
